Financial modelling is a professional skill increasingly demanded, especially in the sectors related to financial areas, consulting and investment banking.

Consultants, multinationals, banks and investment funds, increasingly require their candidates a profile with a solid base in financial modelling, since an important part of the day to day involves the design, construction and management of a financial model. In this course you will learn tools, formulas and methodology of the general use of Excel, learn the particularities of the financial use that allows us and, finally, you can develop your own integrated financial models.

Learning objectives:

  • Working with Excel: we will learn to prepare the work field (sheet, cells, formats and basic functions) as well as the use of graphs and dynamic tables.
  • Excel and use as a financial tool: here we will focus on the financial functions that Excel offers us for the calculation and analysis. In addition, we will learn to create scenarios and to use flags.

Paula has been working in the financial services industry for over 18 years. She started working for ABN AMRO as an analyst and then continued her career in financial services in GE Capital in various divisions such as Real Estate, Leasing, Private Equity and Consumer Lending.

She founded modelandum in 2004 and since then has been involved in financial modelling, primarily in Private Equity projects. Paula has built many customized models for funds and delivered modelling workshops for different universities including London School of Economics, King College, UCL, LBS, IE, ESADE, IESE. She is the founding partner and CEO of modelandum.

Course contents

This course consists of 50 separate online lessons in 9 chapters.

  • CHAPTER 1: Introduction to the general use of Excel, use of the sheets, preparation of the cells and formats.
  • CHAPTER 2: Formulas and methods to work with extensive databases.
  • CHAPTER 3: Focused on learning the most common formulas in Excel, it will allow you to gain ease in the use of the tool.
  • CHAPTER 4: Focused on learning advanced Excel formulas.
  • CHAPTER 5: Basic financial formulas of Excel, different types of interest (simple and compound interest, equivalent interest and CAGR).
  • CHAPTER 6: Development of loan amortization tables and related functions
  • CHAPTER 7: Simulation of scenarios for projects through: creation of scenarios, sensitivity tables, search of objectives and scenario manager.
  • CHAPTER 8: Use of Pivot Tables or dynamic tables calls.
  • CHAPTER 9: Chapter designed to learn the most common graphics in the financial sector.
